Well, I am still just a freshman, so I have not had time to actually think about my life and my plans. To get to the point, my future is completely uncertain.

Until a few days ago, my major was still undeclared. Only recently did I choose to strive for an English major (and even then, I was “forced” for lack of a better word). I cannot recall a time in recent memory where I knew what my future was going to be, even after ever teacher in my life has asked this question. Since I will not pick anything, I guess my future is just a fast food employee? That is what I see in my future. I would probably be living alone, or with my mother, and just go to a random job as a cashier, or something similar, since I can’t seem to actually pick something.

Will the world be so different 3 years from now? Probably not in my eyes. I’m certainly not going to change over that time, so I guess I better start getting better at saying “cash or card?”

Tech Tip

Ever have too many windows open at once and just want to see your desktop again? Well, here’s a tip for you! Hold down your windows key and then press the M key. You’ll minimize all your windows at once.

This is a picture of my messy hair, and nothing more. I feel it’s a good representation of who I am because I prefer to not stand out or be noticed. As well, I have little to no organizational skills, so unkempt hair suits me. At least I think so.

Free Shopping Online! (Please tell me about that >.>)

Free Shopping Online! (Please tell me about that >.>):
This article caught my interest because, well, who doesn’t want to shop online for free? This article is about how criminals found loopholes in online shopping websites, such as Amazon.com, which allowed them to order items at a discount, or even obtain merchandise completely free of charge. I think this shows a lot of ingenuity and creativity of the modern day ”criminal”, while also showing that technology still has a ways to go before truly replacing supermarkets and other smaller stores. Because people are getting more intelligent thanks to the availability of information, it’s becoming harder and harder to prevent various kinds of tricks criminals will use to take their loot. The internet, and the technology behind it, is constantly evolving along with humanity. The systems we have in place are still flawed, and it will take time until it is able to catch up. These flaws in the online shopping system were only fixed recently. Until then, there’s free stuff to be had.

I also wanted to say that I was impressed by the people who managed to bypass the logic system that was in place. You are not usually supposed to root for the bad guys, but I still find it hilarious that they found a way to get free stuff online. :D

Video

My spring break was mostly filled with video games, either at...

My spring break was mostly filled with video games, either at home of over with friends. A lot of fun to be had. That is what I think spring break is about for college students: having fun. Most of the time at college, you are expected to study and learn, cram for exams and write reports. But once spring arrives, the student is allowed to go all out in whatever way they want, free of books and essays. It’s similar to a vacation from a job, where the student gets a chance to relax and unwind, and come back swinging and ready to learn. Spring Break originates from the ancient Greek, when Athenians noticed that the youth became exceptionally active during the spring time. Socrates was the first to suggest a spring break that allowed the young people to vent their urges for a short time (http://www.tripsmarter.com/panamacity/springbreak/sb_history.htm). Schools still follow this tradition, and it has been working well so far. Letting college kids cut loose keeps the students from becoming overworked or overstressed, and utilize pent up energy to party or relax. I choose the latter, and I truely enjoyed my spring break. College is a wonderful place, but even I enjoy getting away for a while.

Back to the Future (of Colleges)

Back to the Future (of Colleges):
The new day and age is online. News, shows, games, sports casting, blogging, social networks, and more are all brought through the internet. Education, too, will follow this route. Even now, more and more classes are being offered online, building up to the change of “brick and click” colleges to just “click”. This will have the effect of making degrees less valuable but on the plus, will increase the amount of people who receive higher education. Overall, the future of colleges and universities will seek to destroy them as we know them today, but will serve to better educate the general population.

A viral video is a video that gains popularity by being passed...

A viral video is a video that gains popularity by being passed around through the internet. Most viral videos in recent times have originated, or have received great attention from, YouTube. The key to a viral video’s success is usually do to one reason. That is; how funny is the video? The funnier the video is, the more likely said video shall receive more views and attention. Taking this video as an example of the “funny viral video” that surfaced a while back. The woman attempts to show the world how good her dog listens to her. Unfortunately, not only does the dog refuse to listen, but the owner’s reaction is that of utter shock and appall. This combines with her accent allows the viewer a humorous video that has received over half a million views. These kinds of videos have been allowed to rise because of the internet, as well as social websites like YouTube or Facebook. When one person finds a video like this, that person spreads it to two people. Those three people tell two more people, then those nine two more again and again until it has spread all across the internet. Sometimes, viral videos gain news coverage, allowing some to receive their “15 minutes of fame.” An excellent example is Tay Zonday, famous for his video “Chocolate Rain.” Because of that video, Tay received some record deals and stared in a Coca-Cola commercial. This originated from a viral video he made, and, thanks to the internet, received fame for it.

"Mystery makes the heart go bonkers."

“Mystery makes the heart go bonkers.”

- Craig Benzine

Video

Me: Why is George Washington buried next to a cherry tree?

Me: Why is George Washington buried next to a cherry tree?
